This painting unites opposites. Using the drip painting technique, the background appears more restless while the choice of colours makes the picture calm. The dark red stands for the robes of monks whereas gold represents Buddha. On this slightly blurred background the four Buddha-shaped eyes catch the attraction of the viewer. Therefore, the painting expresses a high level of calmness and presence.

The Artist

Salil Bishwa is a young artist to whom painting was placed in the cradle. He learned how to paint from his father, Sukbir Bishwa, who emerged as one of the first contemporary artists.

So that there is no confusion with their names, Salil signs his paintings with S. Bishwa II. Meanwhile he has developed his own style and received the second prize at an international art competition. In the capital Thimphu he runs his own gallery, where he exhibits also paintings from other artists.

Salil is versatile and well skilled. Besides painting he plays guitar in a rock band in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.
