Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Year: 2016
Size: 51 x 76 cm

The endless knot is one of the eight sacred lucky signs that exist in Bhutan and in other cultural areas as well. This sign symbolises the interdependence of all being and represents the unity of wisdom, compassion and the illusory nature of time. In this painting as well the artist has used the drip technique for the background, which gives the endless knot an almost sculptural presence.

The Artist

Salil Bishwa is a young artist to whom painting was placed in the cradle. He learned how to paint from his father, Sukbir Bishwa, who emerged as one of the first contemporary artists.

So that there is no confusion with their names, Salil signs his paintings with S. Bishwa II. Meanwhile he has developed his own style and received the second prize at an international art competition. In the capital Thimphu he runs his own gallery, where he exhibits also paintings from other artists.

Salil is versatile and well skilled. Besides painting he plays guitar in a rock band in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.
