Monk with Prayer Wheel

Artist: Pema Gyeltshen
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Year: 2015
Size: 39 x 47 cm
Number: 0018

Monasteries, monks and prayer wheels dominate the picture of Bhutan. They are ubiquitous. With a rosary in his hand, a young monk stands at the entrance of a monastery. Inside there is a prayer wheel which can be spun by hand. It seems that the monk has already turned it because you cannot recognize the characters. At the upper edge of the painting you see again the decorative yellow border with a typical pattern, already shown in the Atsara painting.
