The ox mask is one of the animal masks that is worn during Ragsha Mangcham, the dance of the teaching about the dead. The dance can last for several hours. The artist has chosen a dark brown background to give an even more frightening appearance to the mask.

The Artist

Pema Gyeltshen is self-taught. Painting has always been his passion. As a child, he discovered his love for painting and developed his talent and his own style step by step.

During his schooldays, he received several awards for his work. Recently, Pema won the first prize in an art competition in which renowned artists from Bhutan and India participated. His paintings are displayed in almost all galleries of the Bhutan’s capital and they are sold in many parts of the world.

However, Pema earns his livelihood in a company working in the graphics and film industry.
